The Island of Bute is 15 miles long by 4 miles wide and is situated on the West Coast of Scotland enjoying breath-taking scenery, fabulous wildlife and magnificent walks in the form of the West Island Way. The island is easily accessible and less than an hour’s drive from Glasgow City Centre/Glasgow Airport and also Prestwick Airport. With Caledonian MacBrayne ferries, MV Bute & MV Argyle, your island experience begins the moment you step on board for this relaxing 35 minute journey across The Clyde to our beautiful island. There is also another smaller ferry at the north end of the island which is literally a 5 minute crossing and is the gateway to the rest of Argyll.
The Isle of Bute has plenty to offer everyone, providing a safe environment to bring up your children or a place to retire to. If you enjoy horse riding, fishing, walking, cycling or swimming Bute has them all. There are also three golf courses on the island, an 18 hole course in Rothesay with breath-taking scenery, a 9 hole links course on the south side of the Island and a 12 hole course in the village of Port Bannatyne. There is also the historical Rothesay Castle surrounded by a moat, the award winning Mount Stuart House, two Marinas and the long established Ardencraig Gardens.
The main town of Rothesay is currently undergoing a massive transformation with many retail shops and residential buildings being restored to their former glory. Rothesay has many Victorian buildings, complimented with some good examples of Art-deco style.
